Pine flooring renovation, Cornwall
We got called in on a recommendation to help with the renovation of this delightful Georgian townhouse in Penzance. The pine flooring renovation, in Cornwall, was in need of some attention.
The house is situated on Parade Street, a fine street of listed buildings near the iconic St John’s Hall (the largest granite building in the UK), and the new owner was wishing to bring back the house to its former glory.Being one of the better streets in Penzance, the house was well-built using the finest materials of the time.
The flooring in the building is no exception, being a well-preserved pine flooring that extended throughout the ground floor.
However, years of use and general wear-and-tear had taken their toll and the flooring had evidently not been renovated for some years – most likely decades. As experts in pine flooring renovation in Cornwall, Aspen Sanding were happy to tackle this project.
The job was made a bit more difficult as due to, and this is an issue with many Cornish towns, a lack of parking near the premises. So it was a case of park outside, quickly unload the right tools for the job, then park elsewhere.
We had to lift the old carpet in the downstairs living rooms and remove off the premises for disposal, to reveal the pine flooring.
The flooring was in reasonable condition although in need of a few minor repairs that we were more than happy to carry out.
We use German-made Lagler sanding equipment which is considered to be the Rolls-Royce of sanders. The Lagler sanding equipment is great in that it is 99% dust free, allowing for a clean finish and not leaving the surfaces in the house covered in fine sawdust.
We gave much of the flooring two courses of sanding to improve the finish, so some stubborn blemishes could be removed.
When the sanding was completed, we treated the flooring with some primer and then two coats of high-quality Bona HD lacquer.
The client was very pleased with the end result, as were we, and it’s always a pleasure to see such an old pine floor come up so well. We then left the job to local painter and decorators Tim and Lisa to finish off any decorating duties.
